This year thus far has been… a lot to say the least…

Between the Georgia election, the supremacist terrorists who stormed the Capitol, the Covid variants, the Covid vaccine, the inauguration , the continued murdering of Black + Brown innocence by the police state, the onslaught of violence postured toward our AAPI community AND the Chauvin trial, just to name just a few; we are collectively going through it! And it is only April!

That said, we as a BIPOC community have not only had to endure these trials (some of which are listed above) but the concurrent tribulations of what this society has so far maintained (for us) as an unacceptable, unjust and appalling norm - i.e. the racism we face day to day. It seems that as the days pass this year, we don’t see much improvement in the way the police interact with the BIPOC communities they police. In fact, that statement alone tells you a lot about the state we are all living in. Police shouldn’t police the communities, they should be members of the communities they police, then (maybe) these police would have some respect + show some respect for the individuals and communities they claim they have been sworn to “serve + protect.” At present, police have no respect for the people and it apparent.

I have very strong feelings about the state of this country, yet I have hope. I have hope amongst all of my doubt, fear, anxiety and rage. I have hope that in working through our pain and overcoming the adversity that this unjust system throws our way; we will attain the justice we deserve. We will be free. We will overcome. There are brighter days ahead for us all. I don’t know how. I don’t know when, but I believe this to be true. Somewhere in my soul I understand this to be true and I just hope I am alive to see this when it happens. Even more, I hope I am a vehicle of change in some way, able to manifest this much needed paradigm shift for the betterment of all.
